About the farm
This lot was processed at the aptly named High Born wet mill, which sits at 2,600 metres in the Dimtu Hambela area of the Guji Zone in southern Oromia. Cherry from the surrounding farms, growing between 2,420 and 2,620 metres, is brought to the mill, among the highest points anywhere in Guji, where the cool air slows ripening and builds the concentration a lot like this depends on.
The mill is part of Project Horizon Bloom, an initiative run by Oboleyan Coffee together with local farms to produce top-tier microlots. Oboleyan was founded in 2018 by Tariku Edema and his brothers after regulatory changes that year opened coffee exporting to more private Ethiopian companies, and the project reflects that focus on close, hands-on care at every stage, from harvest through to export.
This lot is a natural, drawn from the heirloom selections JARC 74112, 74114, and 74158. Ripe cherry is dried whole with the fruit left on the seed, which suits the high, cool conditions here.
